    The Phelps-Hatheway School of Floral Arts was created to showcase the magnificent blooms grown in our small community and, for the final session, in our great state of Connecticut. All ages and abilities are welcome! The day begins at Suffield’s Willow View Farm where owner Julie Harrison grows flowers adjacent to the town’s oldest house. After a brief farm tour, guests may pick a large cup full of flowers. After, retire to Phelps-Hatheway House’s late 18th-century carriage house, where we will take in the garden while enjoying beverages and pastries. A special tour of the museum’s interiors will trace the importance of gardens and floral design from the 18th-21st centuries.

    In collaboration with the Suffield Historical Society and Kent Memorial Library, join staff to learn the stories of individuals who resided on Suffield’s North and South Main Streets yet have long been erased from memory. A reception will follow in the Visitor Center.

    The Phelps-Hatheway School of Floral Arts was created to showcase the magnificent blooms grown in our small community and, for the final session, in our great state of Connecticut. All ages and abilities are welcome! Late May marks the return of the peony, known for its deep hues and exquisite fragrance. Debora Reynolds, long-time supporter of the Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden, flower farmer, and floral designer, brings decades of experience in the growing and styling of the peony. Debora will share her horticulture tips and guide you on your way to the perfect arrangement.

    Welcome spring with Suffield Garden Club’s 48th annual May Market! Guests will find an array of flowers, shrubs, herbs, garden sculptures, terrariums, birdbaths, and nature photography, as well as local honey, jams, jellies and fragrant soaps. Looking for gifts for the home? Vendors bearing handwoven baskets, blankets, jewelry, and refinished furniture will have that special item just for you. Visitors can also find bespoke treasures in Phelps-Hatheway's gift shop.

    Honor those special maternal figures in your life with a celebration like no other at Phelps-Hatheway's Mother’s Day Tea! Sample exquisite bites created especially for Phelps-Hatheway by Chef Reneé of Blonde on the Run Catering, accompanied by steaming pots of Harney and Sons tea. Tea service will begin with a brief explanation of our favorite beverage’s role in both world and domestic history and will end with a glimpse into the lives of the women who called the property home since 1761.

    Join Bob Van Dyke, director of the CT Valley School of Woodworking (Manchester, CT) as he demonstrates the making of more common inlays that were used in 18th-century furniture shops. Guests will have the opportunity to study pieces from the Phelps-Hatheway collection.

    Last year, you joined us to celebrate the start of conservation work on our 18th-century wallpaper. This November, we invite you to return to celebrate the conclusion of this wonderful project with Phelps-Hatheway staff, Studio TKM Associates, and special guest speakers who will address the unique nature of the papers and the importance of the conservation work. As daylight wanes, we’ll toast again to this unique project and the future of Phelps-Hatheway’s exquisite collection. Tours of the Phelps-Hatheway House included with purchase.

    Get hands-on with history with a new workshop for 2025! Designed to acquaint participants with the process of wood block printing, which was used to manufacture our 18th-century Parisian wallpapers, the objective of this workshop is to bring the manufacturing process of our wallpapers to life! Guests will gain hands-on experience that will couple with a tour of the house to view the stunning Réveillon wallpapers. All materials included. Light refreshments will be provided.

    Linda Murphy will guide you step-by-step as you create a unique work of art on textile using blooms (we favor dahlias, cosmos, pincushions, and greenery) grown by Suffield’s own Willow View Farm.     Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden's 2025 artist in residence Gina Trusiewicz will give a brief presentation of the materials and processes involved in creating pastel paintings. Samples of pastel papers and pastel sticks will be displayed, and the concept of underpainting will be discussed. The artist’s paintings will be featured in the Visitor Center Gallery through October and available for purchase. Come meet Gina and learn more about this centuries-old technique that is prized for its brilliant and saturated colors. Tours of the museum will be offered at 2 pm and 3 pm with regular admission.
