Kicking off our concert season will be the exuberant sounds of Tubby, long-time project of Matt Parker. Paying tribute to the rich jazz heritage of New Orleans, especially the many talented sax players to come from that city, Tubby celebrates and shares this joyful tradition. Their mission is simple: bring the soulful rhythms of New Orleans to life — and get people on their feet dancing!

Matt Parker bio: Matt Parker is a tenor and soprano saxophone player, born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a recent arrival to Hartford. After seeing trumpeter Maynard Ferguson in concert, he fell in love with jazz and was mentored by the legendary South Florida saxophonist Jimmy Cavallo. Parker played professionally as a teenager in New Orleans before moving to New York to study with Jane Ira Bloom, Barry Harris, and Junior Mance. Later, Parker would go on to play in Maynard’s band Big Bop Nouveau for two years.

This concert will take place on the terrace at the Amos Bull House, located to the rear of the Butler-McCook garden at 59 S. Prospect Street in Hartford. The grounds open at 5 pm and the performance begins at 6 pm. Please note that metered street parking is usually readily available in the area, and free after 6 pm. Visitors may park and enter at the Butler-McCook entrance on Main Street, or the Amos Bull entrance on S. Prospect Street.
This program takes place outdoors. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Amos Bull Community Room.
