Join us for a walking tour of the Hempstead Historic District, one of New London’s first African-American neighborhoods. Hear the stories of the people who lived in this neighborhood and explore how this diverse area evolved. The neighborhood grew up around the Joshua Hempsted House, built in 1678. Residents have included slaveholders, civic leaders, abolitionists, a Revolutionary War hero, and at least two enslaved people. Advance registration required.

Part of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association’s CT Trails Day. Connecticut Landmarks joins outdoors enthusiasts across the state and country to mark Trails Day the first weekend in June each year. See our Sunday program here.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather, as this program will take place outdoors. In case of cancelation due to severe weather, registrants will be notified at the email address on file.
