SUMMARY:Preserving Historic Main Street Hartford | Jane's Walk CT
DESCRIPTION:Leaving from the Butler-McCook House & Garden\, this walk will proceed north up Main Street to the G. Fox Building along the east side\, and return to Butler-McCook along the west side with a collaborative stop at the Ancient Burying Ground. This walk is a variant of our “Discovering Main Street Hartford” walk\, discussing changes to Main Street and encouraging participant discussion about what has been saved and why\, as well as inviting participants to share their recollections about Main Street and its importance. \nRegister through Preservation CT\n\nThis walk is offered free as part of Jane’s Walk CT in collaboration with the Ancient Burying Ground.  Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free\, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by community activist Jane Jacobs\, held annually on the first Saturday in May. This day of community engagement encourages people to share stories with their neighborhoods\, discover aspects of their communities\, and connect with their neighbors.  \nThis program is part of our Historic Hartford Walking Tours series\, where we forge new paths through Hartford’s history! DESCRIPTION:Join us on this new walk for 2025\, as we cover what may seem like familiar geographic ground of Main Street\, only with new stories to tell as we celebrate the lives of Hartford Women. Learn about Hannah Bunce Watson\, Caroline Hewins\, Elizabeth Colt\, Beatrice Fox Auerbach\, Ann Uccello & Carrie Saxon Perry\, Ella Grasso\, Katharine Houghton Hepburn\, Mary Townsend Seymour and CT Suffragists\, the Beecher sisters\, and more.   \nregister now\n\nIn celebration of Mother’s Day\, spend May 10 with Connecticut Landmarks. At the conclusion of the Historic Hartford Walking Tour: Hartford Women\, drive 20 minutes to Suffield’s Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden for a special women-focused museum tour and Mother’s Day Tea with Chef Renee Scharoff from Blonde on the Run Catering. Tea registrants can sign up for the walking tour for just $5 (code sent to Tea registrants via email). Plus\, give three historic gardens worth of flowers to Mom with a Connecticut Landmarks gift membership! \nAdvance registration is required.
