SUMMARY:Seasons of Change Art Exhibit: Laurie Tavino and Ray Pioggia
DESCRIPTION:Stop into Phelps-Hatheway’s Visitor Center for the Seasons of Change art exhibition by Laurie Tavino and Ray Pioggia. In this exhibit\, photographic and hand-rendered images in color and monochrome depict scenes and themes from locations throughout Suffield – a number of which are views that no longer exist. \nWe invite you to join us for the exhibit’s opening reception on Friday\, May 1\, from 5 pm–7 pm in the Visitor’s Center. Laurie and Ray will be on site to answer questions as you gather with friends and neighbors to take in the beauty of this special offering. \nThe exhibit will be open during the property’s regular open hours this season through November 1. DESCRIPTION:Suffield is often described as a “town of farms.” More specifically\, we like to say that it is home to a “town of flower farms.” The Phelps-Hatheway School of Floral Arts was created to showcase the magnificent blooms grown in our small community and\, for the final session\, in our great state of Connecticut. All ages and abilities are welcome! \nFloristry doesn’t need to end when the gardens have gone to rest! Join site administrator Lynn Mervosh and staff for a holiday bulb workshop that will brighten the shortest days of the year. Lynn will share the history of these bulbs and how to encourage a long-lasting display. All materials included. Treats and tea will warm hearts and hands as the holiday season approaches. \nRegister Now\n\n Guests will be provided with a pot\, soil\, and a variety of mosses\, and may select a bulb(s) to their liking. Join our costumed guides as they transport guests to the time before electricity illuminated our homes to see the “grand dames” of this historic thoroughfare festively lit and decorated to celebrate the season. During the walk\, you’ll gain insight into the dominant architectural styles of the historic district and hear tales of those who worked the land and supported the community throughout the ages. \nBuy Tickets\nChildren are especially welcome to participate in the easy 1-mile journey\, as this walk will contain more sparkle than darkness and is suitable for even our youngest visitors. \n\nPlease dress for the weather as this event takes place outdoors.
