DESCRIPTION:Updated for 2026! Join an easy 1.5-mile walking tour on the sidewalks of Hartford’s historic Main Street from the Butler-McCook House & Garden to the G. Fox Building exploring this city’s colonial roots and more! This walk includes some of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route. \nregister now\n\nThis program is offered FREE as part of Connecticut Trails Day. The first weekend of June\, trail lovers across Connecticut head outside to hike\, play\, ride\, explore\, climb\, run\, and paddle. \nAdvance registration is required. This program is part of our Historic Hartford Walking Tours series\, where we forge new paths through Hartford’s history! Register for additional walks here.  \nPlease wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather\, as this program will take place outdoors. DESCRIPTION:Bring a lawn chair and a picnic dinner as our historic garden comes alive with music! Round out your evening with free tours of the house museum’s first floor\, an audio tour of the garden\, and featured artist exhibitions. In case of inclement weather\, the concert will move indoors to the Amos Bull Community Room. \nFeatured Performers: TUBBY\, Feat. Matt Parker \nKicking off our concert season will be the exuberant sounds of Tubby\, long-time project of Matt Parker. Paying tribute to the rich jazz heritage of New Orleans\, especially the many talented sax players to come from that city\, Tubby celebrates and shares this joyful tradition. Their mission is simple: bring the soulful rhythms of New Orleans to life — and get people on their feet dancing!  \nPersonnel:\nMatt Parker – saxophone\nLuca Benedetti – guitar\nDanny Fox – piano\nDave Speranza – bass\nDan Rieser – drums  \nMatt Parker bio: Matt Parker is a tenor and soprano saxophone player\, born and raised in Fort Lauderdale\, Florida and a recent arrival to Hartford. After seeing trumpeter Maynard Ferguson in concert\, he fell in love with jazz and was mentored by the legendary South Florida saxophonist Jimmy Cavallo. Parker played professionally as a teenager in New Orleans before moving to New York to study with Jane Ira Bloom\, Barry Harris\, and Junior Mance. Later\, Parker would go on to play in Maynard’s band Big Bop Nouveau for two years.  \nRegister Now\n\nSponsored by the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation; the Evelyn W. Bring a picnic and your dancing shoes to the garden of the Butler-McCook House and join the party in Hartford’s best kept secret—our historic garden oasis–with the String of Pearls Big Band. The sounds of the 1930s\, 40s\, and 50s will fill our garden as the band keeps the music of Big Band Swing and The Great American Songbook alive and well in the 21st century. \nThis internationally recognized day of music began over 40 years ago and is now celebrated in 120 countries with thousands of free concerts. Gardens will be open rain or shine. \nBellamy-Ferriday House & Garden\nGarden & Grounds Open 12 noon–4 pm \nRoam the beautiful\, landscaped areas of our 10-acre property. Over a 70-year period\, Eliza Ferriday and her daughter\, Caroline\, created a garden showcasing their love of roses\, lilacs and peonies. Today\, the garden is maintained by staff. Bellamy-Ferriday joined CT Historic Gardens in 2004 as a founding member. Our staff will be on hand to answer questions.   \nBook a guided tour of the museum interiors » \nButler-McCook House & Garden \nGarden & Grounds Open 9 am–1 pm \nInspired by their European travels\, Eliza Butler and Mary Sheldon adapted an original plan by the Swiss landscape architect Jacob Weidenmann for their Victorian ornamental garden on Hartford’s Main Street. The formal parterre garden features low boxwood hedges with beds of roses\, perennials\, and annuals connected by winding stone paths. It is lovingly cared for by the West Hartford Garden Club. Suffield Garden Club members will be on hand to answer questions about the garden’s history and its inventory.
