SUMMARY:Pastel Paintings Art Exhibit: Gina Trusiewicz
DESCRIPTION:Stop into Phelps-Hatheway’s Visitor Center for the Pastel Paintings exhibition by Gina Trusiewicz. With a longtime interest in art\, Trusiewicz developed her craft in an online class during the pandemic. Her interest in nature\, animals\, and plants\, combined with her certification as a Master Gardener\, has inspired the work for this exhibit–capturing everyday moments in West Hartford or right from her own backyard through the medium of soft pastel sticks. She also aims to capture the feelings these moments evoke; whether it be the brightness of the sunshine\, the iridescence of a flower\, or the sweet look on the face of a neighborhood bear as he has finished raiding the neighbor’s garbage can. \nAn opening reception will be held on Saturday\, May 17 during the Suffield Garden Club’s 47th Annual May Market. Gina Trusiewicz will be on site from 1 pm-3 pm. \nDuring the museum’s open tour day on September 14\, Trusiewicz will be onsite from 1 pm–2 pm to demonstrate the art of pastel painting. \nThe exhibit will be open during the property’s regular open hours this season. SUMMARY:Stitching History with America's Tapestry at the Nathan Hale Homestead
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Hale Homestead during the Coventry Farmers’ Market to join stitchers from America’s Tapestry and local artists from Hartford Stitch for a morning of fun\, creativity\, and history. Join us to stitch history together – no experience required! \nAmerica’s Tapestry is a nationwide community project featuring 13 hand-embroidered panels\, one for each of the original colonies\, depicting diverse stories from the American Revolution. Each panel is crafted by volunteers from New Hampshire to Georgia\, and visitors are invited to contribute their own stitches to the Connecticut panel. All materials will be provided! \nThe Connecticut panel highlights the story of Hannah Bunce Watson\, the first female publisher of the Connecticut Courant (now the Hartford Courant). After the passing of her husband\, Hannah\, who lived just a stone’s throw from the Butler-McCook House & Garden\, joined forces with Sarah Butler to keep the newspaper in print\, offering timely and encouraging source of news to patriot readers. \nRegistration is not required for the stitching event. DESCRIPTION:The Isham-Terry House is a time capsule of genteel life in turn-of-the-century Hartford. In 1896\, Dr. Oliver Isham purchased the 1854 Italianate house for his medical practice and as a home for himself\, his parents and his three sisters. His sisters\, Julia and Charlotte\, lived in the house until their deaths in the 1970s as urban renewal claimed many of the houses in the once-grand neighborhood.
