SUMMARY:Pastel Paintings Art Exhibit: Gina Trusiewicz
DESCRIPTION:Stop into Phelps-Hatheway’s Visitor Center for the Pastel Paintings exhibition by Gina Trusiewicz. With a longtime interest in art\, Trusiewicz developed her craft in an online class during the pandemic. Her interest in nature\, animals\, and plants\, combined with her certification as a Master Gardener\, has inspired the work for this exhibit–capturing everyday moments in West Hartford or right from her own backyard through the medium of soft pastel sticks. She also aims to capture the feelings these moments evoke; whether it be the brightness of the sunshine\, the iridescence of a flower\, or the sweet look on the face of a neighborhood bear as he has finished raiding the neighbor’s garbage can. \nAn opening reception will be held on Saturday\, May 17 during the Suffield Garden Club’s 47th Annual May Market. Gina Trusiewicz will be on site from 1 pm-3 pm. \nDuring the museum’s open tour day on September 14\, Trusiewicz will be onsite from 1 pm–2 pm to demonstrate the art of pastel painting. \nThe exhibit will be open during the property’s regular open hours this season. DESCRIPTION:This exhibit will celebrate the power of written communication in shaping LGBTQ+ identity\, activism\, and community. From love letters to zines and personal diaries to protest flyers\, these artifacts tell the stories of resilience\, connection\, and creativity that have sustained LGBTQ+ communities across generations. Using the Palmer-Warner House’s collection and loaned items\, this exhibit will weave together your stories with the stories of the house’s previous residents\, Frederic Palmer and Howard Metzger\, who created a safe space together in East Haddam. DESCRIPTION:Experience the work of Storrs artist and retired art instructor Scott Rhoades. Raised in Coventry\, Rhoades’ work has been published in several magazines and his school mural program was nationally recognized. He received a first-place prize from Marlborough Arts Center for the painting pictured above\, “Nathan Hale Homestead Field\,” which also won the 2024 Painting Award at the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. Stop by on Sundays in August to visit Rhoades\, who will be onsite working on his latest artwork and answering questions.  \nAn opening reception for Connecticut Landmarks’ Members and Invited Guests will take place on Saturday\, August 9\, 10:30 am–11:30 am. Audio tours are available via the IZI.Travel app for the historic garden. The Amos Bull and Butler-McCook Houses will also celebrate featured artist exhibitions. Concerts happen rain or shine. In case of inclement weather\, the concert will move indoors to the Amos Bull Community Room. \nFeatured Performers: Dan Pugach Nonet feat. Nicole Zuraitis \nDan Pugach is a GRAMMY® Award-winning drummer and composer. His latest album\, Bianca Reimagined: Music for Paws and Persistence (2024)\, featuring Nicole Zuraitis\, won the 2025 GRAMMY® Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. Additionally\, he was the featured drummer on the 2024 GRAMMY® Award-winning album How Love Begins\, co-produced by Nicole Zuraitis and Christian McBride. His debut album\, Dan Pugach Nonet – Plus One (2018)\, reached the top 20 in Jazz radio and earned a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Arrangement\, Instruments and Vocal for “Jolene” alongside Zuraitis. \nThe Amos Bull and Butler-McCook Houses will also celebrate a featured artist exhibition by Luis Cotto as well as Andy Hart and Cecil Hudson. \nRegister Now\n\nSponsored by: the Richard P.
