SUMMARY:Preserving Historic Main Street Hartford | Jane's Walk CT
DESCRIPTION:Leaving from the Butler-McCook House & Garden\, this walk will proceed north up Main Street to the G. Fox Building along the east side\, and return to Butler-McCook along the west side with a collaborative stop at the Ancient Burying Ground. This walk is a variant of our “Discovering Main Street Hartford” walk\, discussing changes to Main Street and encouraging participant discussion about what has been saved and why\, as well as inviting participants to share their recollections about Main Street and its importance. \nRegister through Preservation CT\n\nThis walk is offered free as part of Jane’s Walk CT in collaboration with the Ancient Burying Ground.  Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free\, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by community activist Jane Jacobs\, held annually on the first Saturday in May. This day of community engagement encourages people to share stories with their neighborhoods\, discover aspects of their communities\, and connect with their neighbors.  \nThis program is part of our Historic Hartford Walking Tours series\, where we forge new paths through Hartford’s history! Register for additional walks here. \nPlease wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather\, as this program will take place outdoors. DESCRIPTION:Visit the Butler-McCook House & Garden\, the only 18th-century home remaining on Hartford’s Main Street\, for a guided tour to learn about the McCook family\, who loved music\, art\, and travel through explorations of the museum’s collections which include paintings\, Japanese samurai armor\, furniture\, and toys. \nRegister Now\n\nAdvance registration for tours appreciated\, but walk-ups welcome as space permits!
