SUMMARY:White Sails\, Black Hands: The African-American Experience on Connecticut's Waters
DESCRIPTION:Beginning in 1639 when the first enslaved person arrived in Connecticut\, the number of persons of color steadily increased in New London County. Every town in New London County had a significant percent of African Americans and people of mixed race living and working in them\, however\, their stories are not always told. This tour will explore the stories of a fugitive slave\, Black Revolutionary Patriots\, Black Governors and Whalers\, the Amistad and more. \nPurchase Tickets\n  \n\nFollowing your purchase\, you will receive an email with your confirmation. DESCRIPTION:Experience the home Frederic Palmer and Howard Metzger made together in what they called “the wilds of Connecticut.” Explore the property’s Colonial-era history to understand why Palmer was interested in purchasing the home with his mother in 1936. Learn about the collection of letters and diaries\, photographs\, historic furnishings\, and decorative arts used to reconstruct their lives together. When weather permits\, explore the grounds to see the constructed landscape Metzger and Palmer created.  \nRegister Now\n\nAdvance reservations for tours appreciated\, but walk-ups welcome as space permits!
