Martha Hall Kelly first visited the Bellamy-Ferriday Hous \ne & Garden in 2006\, where she was inspired by the remarkable stories of Caroline Woolsey Ferriday and a group of women held in Ravensbruck concentration camp. Since then\, she has enthralled readers with books Lilac Girls\, Lost Roses\, and Sunflower Sisters. With her newest novel we go back to Ravensbruck and follow the journey of Josie and Arlette—one American and one French—both working as spies for the resistance to bring Nazi fugitives to justice. This promises to be an amazing afternoon. \n\nTickets will go on sale for Connecticut Landmarks Members at 12:00 noon on Wednesday\, March 15. SUMMARY:Hempstead Historic District  | CT Trails Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walking tour of the Hempstead Historic District\, one of New London’s first African-American neighborhoods. Hear the stories of the people who lived in this neighborhood and explore how this diverse area evolved. The neighborhood grew up around the Joshua Hempsted House\, built in 1678. Residents have included slaveholders\, civic leaders\, abolitionists\, a Revolutionary War hero\, and at least two enslaved people. Advance registration required. \nRegister Now\n\nPart of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association’s CT Trails Day. Connecticut Landmarks joins outdoors enthusiasts across the state and country to mark Trails Day the first weekend in June each year. See our Sunday program here. \nPlease wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather\, as this program will take place outdoors.
